do you have a promo, Koris?

Nah, just going off the singles we have so far
What's cool though is that my new Oceans of Slumber review was the first time I ever got a promo prior to the album's release. Finally exercising those staffer privileges 👍

before we get to the last will, can we all please acknowledge how amazing the final 2:30 of Continuum is?

Definitely. I love all of this.

not to mention All Things Will Pass - those 2 songs really are top tier Opeth

Yeah, the acoustic work at the end of Continuum is absolutely gorgeous. Not to mention the mellotron that creeps in afterwards... goosebumps

Yeah, this era really deserves more love. I've never agreed with the whole "meh, I want growls!" contingent of Opeth fans... as much as I love death metal, the growls were never the biggest draw of Opeth for me. It was always the songwriting, atmosphere, etc.

I understand what you're saying but the heavy riffing went away too. I think a lot of fans probably kind of miss that, I know I do.

My main thing is, and I know a lot of people don't like this argument, but we've got 8 (soon to be 9) full Opeth albums with growls and dm elements. They aren't going anywhere and they're all there to listen to, and they're still great.
And on a more speculative level, I always personally thought Opeth really just about exhausted everything they could do with the genre and I personally wouldn't want to see them phone it in. Agreed that their main draw for me is the songwriting, atmosphere, etc.

Yeah, I think for most it isn't simply the growls. For instance, most fans love damnation

i've been saying for a decade now if they still wrote songs like Harlequin Forest sans the growls i'd be very happy.

But does this not bring those prog metal riffs? ICV is easily the most aggressive, metallic album they've released since Watershed. Sure, it doesn't have the growls, but it has a lot of the heavy chugging riffs that the last three albums lacked

Yeah ICV is my favorite of the newer era

Koris dude - Demon of the Fall, Deliverance, Serenity Painted Death, The Grand Conjuration, Blackwater Park, Heir Apparent, and others would like to have a word with you

^ I said "since Watershed" and all of those are before Watershed (or concurrent in the case of Heir Apparent), lol

I feel like you misread my entire last comment

I didn’t misread it and I know you were referring to this record compared to its 3 predecessors.
I was just making a point between the 2 different eras in which we were comparing. I agree with your comment and should’ve stated that buddy….

Zaru gets it, that's what I've been saying as far as missing their brilliance from the late '90s and 2000s. Those vocals I couldn't care less about and would be fine not hearing again, but the musical style and instrumentals are still very different on these 2010s records, even if there are some metallic elements. But I've grown to love Heritage, quite like a lot of these past three, and artists inevitably evolve and change so I'm not complaining too much.
