Have you heard them all yet DDD? OSDM though? Maybe melo-death with BM elements in the early days, but they've always been proggy. Also, you forgot Folk.

yap completely right there...its more BM in the early days than actual osdm. ...and yeah the folk all along, and also some psychedelixxxx lolol ...tks for correcting, you're the expert here. I'm only lacking on Pale Communion and this one yet to come. Amazing band. This one fell a bit short sadly. In my opinion though Ghost Reveries is an instant grabber for a newcomer, even if he's not much of a metal person.

Yeah I'd suggest Blackwater Park and/or Ghost Reveries, then go chronologically to see their progress.
This is their worst to me.

It's weird how most of the album's highlights are the song endings. Wilde Flowers, t/t, Strange Brew, Seventh Sojourn...

Yeah I noticed that too! They've always excelled at outros though. BWP, Deliverance, Häxprocess, To Bid You Farewell, April Ethereal, etc.

Oh and Slither, that ending is superbbbb too. Weird track, very out of place, but it boosts the energy level of the album and doesn't overstay its welcome.

"What Opeth album do people think i should start with if i've only just found them?"
Still Life / Blackwater Park / Damnation - in my opinion.
|

I think this is underrated. Only thing I would really change is the production
|
| |
Oh and the bonus tracks probably should’ve been on the album
|
| |
Could use a better cover for starters

Production is stupid yeeaah. Plus that intro with the voice over is horrible. And the rest is just a little soulless to me. Hope the Latin one will be better.

Interesting! Happy to know the reason behind the Swedish/English versions and that Mike considers the Swedish one to be ''the real one''.

It's going to be hated, but I'm still interested.

Yea, if Mikael considers one version to be the definite one the I want to stick to that version

This does worry me a bit though:
''I have to kind of suss out in my own voice what I don't like, what I want to get rid of from my own pipes, and what I should put emphasis on. I found that stepping outside of the comfort zone and singing beyond my abilities makes things sound good. There is a type of frustration that comes out, and it's actually true frustration (laughs). Sometimes I try to hit a note that I simply cannot get, so I developed a falsetto that you hear a lot on this album.''

Yea, we've got to see how this turns out. I have no idea what this could be like, but I hooe he doesn't push too hard

He’s used falsetto before and it was great.
However that article hasn’t got me pumped for the new album
