How has Maynard ever done it just to please us? It's not like Tool was ever a band that released albums on a regular basis. They've always just made albums when they felt like it. I think he's just trying to hype up the band's mystique at this point

Who knows why Maynard said those things, but his comments are clearly aimed at fans who take their music and image way too seriously, and won't stop pestering them to make more material. Part of me thinks he loves the attention, and that's why he won't straight up answer the specific questions. Like people have said, he loves to mess with the media and can be an ass, but at least he's an honest ass.

I wouldn't give up hope just yet on a new Tool release at some point though, he really hasn't given any straight answer, and they are apparently in the studio. Maynard is one of four men in this band, he is not the dictator of Tool, and doesn't even contribute to the instrumental music. No matter what happens in the future, I'm confident Adam, Justin, and Danny will always make music. Like I said, I think a new Tool album will be released, Maynard's just expressing his personal exasperations. He should just do what makes him happy, which it sounds like he has no problem doing; the man just wants to focus on Puscifer and his wine.

At least we have 5+ hours of music from them already, 2 hours of incredible A Perfect Circle, dozens of Tool clones out there, Isis's albums, and other prog that exists to listen to. If a new Tool album drops, great, I'll probably love it. But at this point I've learned not to hold my breath. There's plenty of great new music for me to explore anyway at this point. Tool will always be one of my all time favorite bands, and I'm just grateful that they've done what they've done by now.
