"okay pal the stage is great I’m drawing a line in the sand" Neck.
Sevenfold trying to do prog is the worst thing I've heard in a long time

they’ve always been a little proggy, since city of evil at least
And I say that as someone that doesn’t usually like prog lol

I don't see it in City Of Evil, Self Titled, Nightmare, or HTTK. CoE was a Maiden tribute act basically, ST was just a radio metal album, Nightmare was a blend of COE and WTF, and HTTK was just a ripoff of every popular metal band

I’d say Sidewinder, The Wicked End, Strength of the World, and Save Me are kinda prog then they just went full blown with it on the Stage.

Why, because Sidewinder has a flamenco outro, and because Save Me is really long? I still don't see the actual progression there

i see it

I wouldn't call that part of Sidewinder an outro (in a "pejorative" way I mean) because it has a full-fledged verse and soloing. Plus I love how it was briefly teased before the last chorus, making it a more or less natural conclusion.
As to calling it prog... I wouldn't call the album prog metal or anything but here and there it does have proggy elements I'd say (Bat Country's sudden soft sections, symphony in Wicked End...)

What the fuck is progression to you

Something that constantly evolves within a song, adding new ideas and yet looping back on itself sometimes. Something more than just "oh it adds another verse with a flamenco section at the end of a song"

"Something that constantly evolves within a song, adding new ideas and yet looping back on itself sometimes"
Well that just sounds like a motif.

If you think MIA and Wicked End aren't progressive metal then I don't know what to tell a silly goose.

I think it's metal m/

idk i view prog rock/metal as employing more unique song structures and musical elements that aren't typically found in the genre. I'd say City of Evil does that a fair amount.

City of Evil is their best album and it's not close

Agreed, City of Evil is their top

Coe is by far their best yes. In high school i mashed bat country and carousel by blink 182 in a guitar recital and the teacher wrote it as "batty country" on the programmes lol

CoE will always yield my best memories A7X-wise because Beast and the Harlot was the first song I ever sang with a band. Plus, that was the first time I ever heard of these guys, so CoE as a whole as my first exposure to them. Fun times

I'm likely to be in the minority that thinks City is rather mediocre, but at least it's better than most of what came after it save for The Stage, which might be one of the better albums this band released.
