You can definitely hear the pedo in pedo-core

agree on Pantera's optics being at the forefront of their music as well as their marketing, do not agree on using a band's influence on inferior followers as a gallows to hang em on (this is some real middle school logic cmon)

'separating the artist from the art' is one of the most boring and overused talking points made worse by the fact that its never clarified what exactly is meant
everyone just assumes its a string of words that means something but it means nothing to me, clarify your shit normies
spurn the normies
spurn
|
| |
*jaw ominously drops while spurning somehow intensifies*
|
| |
There’s a lot of normie sympathizers on this site
|
| |
What’s a normie? That like a person who kills their mother after forming a weird, fucked up quasi-incestual relationship? Normies should be spurned and burned indeed
|
| |
Nah it’s just sowing
|
| |
That’s good. Can’t see Sowing ever pulling a psycho

"do not agree on using a band's influence on inferior followers as a gallows to hang em on" i mean fair, normally I wouldn't really care considering they've also influenced much better alternatives, but the toxic masculine shit that influenced say, 5FDP, that I can't stand, is exactly the same issue that Pantera has, and its clear as day that Ivan took Anselmo as some sort of idol in terms of attitude.

The difference is that Phil is actually a genuine friendly guy in real life
Ivan Moody is simply a piece of shit, on or off the stage
A physically violent alcoholic narcissist

I mean Phil probably grew the hell up after Dimebash, which, good for him. But I know his behavior was exposed quite explicitly by Robb Flynn (no saint either but I respect the balls on him to stand up for better values than Anselmo showed that night) in that racism in metal video. Including apparently referring to Machine Head's nu metal era as the "[n-word] music" era. And that's completely ignoring all the confederate imagery, which I'm pretty sure they claimed was because of Skynyrd.

True, he has made a lot of mistakes in the past
Quite a few racism-related

i agree with the point up above about separating the art from the artist being a sentence that sounds like it means something but is so fucking vague / like i don't think it's possible to do that really and kind of does the work a disservive to not take in the context of the people making it / but the real question is / can i still consume their art if they're a shit person or done shit things? and i feel like my answer to that is always... well... it depends

Yeah it really depends. Like there was a situation with Old Gray that came out and from what I read, Cam and the victim had some sort of closure and he was getting therapy but it still feels weird, like I spun an Old Gray album the other day and then found out why they broke up after and I was like... oh, okay.

"but the real question is / can i still consume their art if they're a shit person or done shit things? and i feel like my answer to that is always... well... it depends"
Yes, it's difficult
It depends on if the person in question changed their ways, in my opinion

I can't go back in good conscience for Brand New because of Jesse Lacey and it's a damn good thing I think TDAG is overrated and TBS clears. I can't revisit I the Mighty anymore after the Brent shit. Obviously Lostprophets go without saying.
Pantera might be "cleared" now but their whole aura just makes me uncomfortable anyway and it's obv Phil waited for both Dime and Vinnie to go before he reunited the band so there'd be less of a fuss.

'can i still consume their art if they're a shit person or done shit things? and i feel like my answer to that is always... well... it depends'
nah, the answer is always yes, just pirate the absolute shit out of it - as long as you're not funding anything you'd feel uncomfortable about, go ahead
but yeah, sometimes I just wouldn't want to because the association is having an overwhelming impact on my perception of the art
