Check both tbh they’re both better than any “technical progcore” that has been released in the last 10 years. Crazy that band used to be that good and just churns out bullshit now

I don't agree but I do love both of those albums, and they aren't really in the same vein of shit I was alluding to lol

What are the necessary ingredients that need to be present to make a band progcore

@steak yeah that's true haha, I would put The Discovories by BoO in the progcore category, also The Afterimage which bangs, then Shokran, Elitist, Blueshift, that's about it lol

@botb depends on the band but I’d say the most important aspect is polyrhythmic chugging riffs mixed with melodic lead work, think the aggression of misery signals mixed with space leads from Hopesfall I guess lol. The problem arises when newer bands just emulate what erra took from their influences and instead just try and emulate erra themselves without any sense of identity coming out of it

Weaver is a banger yea
Oracle is an essential car jam
Those guys totally disappeared
|

But isn’t that literally just melodic metalcore

There are parallels there but only like surface level. Parkway Drive and like KSE don't fuck with polyrhythms or make them a focus of a song like a progcore band would

"Those guys totally disappeared"
they rebranded under a new name "virutal veins" which is one of the worst rebrands i can think of lmao. they dropped an ep last year that i keep forgetting to jam
and yea oracle is goated. i should give that record a thread one day

I don’t get it at all but have fun guys

“it all feels hollow now save for some exceptions. And man, if it's new progcore being made by a newer band in/from this decade? 95% chance it's shallow garbage lol
I love progcore but it's super top heavy”
This is basically all that needs to be said lol

“Closer to mathcore than progcore anyways”
So progcore is like… mathy, but not TOO mathy and melodic because dissonance is the wrong kind of progressive element? I’m really trying to wrap my mind around this as a core listener.
