Agreed about the last 5 tracks solidifying this. Also agree about I'll Still Destroy You being sublime and a Top 10 National song. I didn't immediately grasp the title track, but now it's easily my 2nd favorite song on the record (could become my favorite?). The entire album seems to be about losing touch with the things you are passionate about, as you grow old, and the title track is the ultimate culmination: "I'm at a loss, I'm at a loss, losing grip, the fabrics rip…" The song's "drowning in a sea of electronics and indifference" aura really hammers the point home.

I Am Easy to Find was pretty disappointing after 5 albums of pure amazingness.

I Am Easy to Find blew me away at first and then sounded worse and more basic with every subsequent listen. It was basically the antithesis of any other National album that normally grows with time.

I always describe uninteresting indie instrumentals as car insurance music and I totally got those vibes from my very first listen, despite still thinking the album was good overall. Just pretty disappointing. Alligator and Boxer are my fav two National records but High Violet isn't far behind.

I thought I Am Easy To Find was atrociously disappointing at first, but it's grown on me since. Still easily their worst in a long time though.

And Sowing, thanks for giving me hope that I'll eventually appreciate the title track on here. I know some people swear by it, but I haven't come around yet

listen to it while driving at night, or on a fall day, I swear that those two settings can make anything sound profound

Title track is actually the reason why I refuse to entertain 5'ing this. It just does nothing for me, one of my least favorite songs from the band.

No danger of me 5’ing this cause it’s not 5 levels of good on the whole. I knew they were falling off a bit compared to the 3 before it.

Damn, it's one of my facourite tracks on this record which I don't love as much as pretty much everything before it.

After revisiting this a few times I love it more than I ever did. I’ll Still Destroy You is one of their very best. And I even don’t mind Turtleneck,, it’s just wildly out of place here

Destroy You is amaze but the 4 tracks after it are better. And yeah Turtleneck is kinda fun, doesn't make sense here but I also miss that side of them occasionally.

I think I'm one of the few who's loved Turtleneck from the time it came out

I do go back on forth on its place in this album. On the one hand this definitely needs something to shake up the pace a bit, especially between "Born to Beg" and "Empire Line", but "Turtleneck" is still a bit too jarring imo.

Definitely somewhere in the middle for me. Has a lot of great songs but also some duds (Born To Beg, Empire Line, Carin At The Liquor Store)

Huh, I like Born to Beg and Carin a lot. Empire Line's aight. Turtleneck is the only real weak point here for me.
