> this is one of the BEST prog rock albums I've ever heard.
Great for you Frost. All Opeth albums have their fans, so fly that freak flag.

Yeah, in all honesty this has some great bangers, and it's the second time I see someone loving this album, so good for you ;)

The shot of energy to end River is lowkey top-tier Opeth moments

I hope he heard Red by King Crimson, and other classic prog essentials. If so then I can respect that opinion, perfectly solid album here with some great moments.

@Sabrutin, It's indeed a shame they didn't let go of any restraint there, that would have been wild

River is amazing agreed. So is Eternal Rains obviously. Some awesome moments yet parts of this feel a bit through-the-motions.

Yeah, Heritage is definitely better.

I'm gonna get some flak for this, but I think Sorceress is the only post-Watershed Opeth album that deserves a 4 or higher
|
| |
Wow that’s some divergent thinking
|
| |
Also all their 2010s stuff is rad, but In Cauda Venenum is my least favorite of them so far

Yeah. The problem with In Cauda Venenum is that it's too long and overstuffed with empty ideas. There's really good stuff in there, but it's buried beneath a lot of filler
|
| |
I agree, and it’s probably the only one I can say that about out of their newer stuff. The only thing I’d change about Sorceress is the production and the working of the bonus tracks into the tracklist, Heritage and Pale Communion are both great as is

I definitely agree on Sorceress. They should have replaced one of the weaker tracks with The Ward (I was always a little baffled that that song wasn't included on the main tracklist)

The Ward didn't really fit stylistically with the rest of the album. Of course there is the oriental The Seventh Sojourn, but it's instrumental so works well as an interlude, while The Ward wouldn't.

Idk all these tracks in Sorceress are very different from one another. Replace two weaker tracks with these bonus tracks (Spring 1972!) and the album gets better quite a bit

Sorceress has one of the worst production jobs I've ever experienced

Yeah it totally ruins the experience. But some songwriting decisions are a little too much too.
