"i'm not bothered by it, i just think it's amusing that we have literally come full circle, people have found that they hated everything they could and there was nothing left under the sun to hate, so they took to pretending to love the one genre that has always been an easy target for hate"
I've never had a hate for pop music though, I sure did during my "LWG" phase where I pretended Queen and Led Zep were the only bands that mattered, but beyond that I've always had the time to dig pop music when it has its jams. As for the growing tide of "poptimism" as the bottom feeders call it? Probably because a lot of modern pop music is starting to deviate from how soulless and gross it was in the 2009-2011 stretch where you could say "i was born in the wrong generation" and be forgiven for saying such stupid things.
Theres a lot of artists who are actually trying to breathe a lot more life into it either through some more "out there" subject matter (as far as top 40 goes) or some really interesting, cool, and smart sound design and development. My issue here is that you think people's love for it is some pretentious turn to "well we hate every genre might as well pretend to like the ass of all jokes huehue" when honestly people are just kind of realizing its ok to like... fun things? or appreciate an art form that has always had cool development in a very reserved, no as artistic manner.
I won't deny there are try hards who are really just liking select pop music to be facetious and contrarian, but the fact it was ever a giant easy target for people to hate just shows how dumb people are. Like damn, its not a sin to like pop music. A lot of it is really good tbh.

'i'm liking the "i have gone so far down the being a hipster elitist rabbit hole even though i'm only 16 years old that i'm now going to pretend mainstream pop is exceptionally good" trend right now'
this is actually a thing but it's easy to ignore.
all these people like mediocre/shitty pop like daya and halsey. fuckin halsey.

"when honestly people are just kind of realizing its ok to like... fun things?"
this is fundamentally not true though. you feel attacked and as a result project your personal feelings and viewpoints onto everyone else, and while they may be true for yourself, they certainly aren't for most of the people i am referring to.
they're still very edgy and spiteful, only on top of hating everything that they have ever truly genuinely enjoyed in the past and everything people agree is good, they also 4.5 mainstream pop for the hell of it because lel kek xd

park, who are you talking about? like what even?
most people who peddle mainstream pop are former scene kids. them 'hating' music they used to like is very okay in my books.
and mainstream pop >>>>>>>> scene music, so yeah. lesser of two evils at the very least.

i guess the issue is i have never run into people like this. unless im guilty of it because i have Body Talk at a 4.5 (oops). At that point youre just dealing with contrarian jack offs and that isnt a problem exclusive to pop music. Plenty of people like and appreciate it as a misunderstood industry, or they just like some fun quality jams. I still think getting worked up about it isn't that big of an issue.

" Like damn, its not a sin to like pop music."
true that, but there's a difference between liking pop music and 4.5 ing this while 2ing everything else that everyone agrees is good
