This is about as comfortable as sunbathing in the glow of The Trinity Test

i feel like it is true that deafheaven's music is best understood from the subject position you were talking about in that write-up. their 2010 demo did for me what sunbather seems to have done for you. i listened to that thing obsessively. idk if i'm sinply not in the same mental space now that i was in early 2011, but this record doesn't touch me like that, with the exception of the title track and the closer.

doesn't help I generally don't listen to this style anyway, but I don't think I'll ever be able to interpret this the way others seem to

[insert darkthrone album here] >

i know this isnt really black metal though so dont FREAK OUT

hell i hardly hear any metal in it at all tbh and that's not just me trying to be elitist. i mean it's there but not prominent enough for this to be considered a metal record in my eyes. not that it really matters

closer to hardcore imo, specifically emocore. just with big post-metal and black metal influences. the riffs arent very metal, they just dont give off that kinda menacing confidence that i usually associate with that type of music.

and no i am not listing reasons for why i don't like this very much if anyone's thinking that. i just don't find it super engaging all the way through

god i probably sound like a tool right now but whatever, just my 2 cents.
