The Saturday show was good, but I was a little disappointed. Deep Peace was the highlight, and it was great to see Detox (had seen at Bloodstock) and Life again. I'm starting to get a bit frustrated with seeing him live; I always buy tickets in the hope that I won't miss any deep cuts live, yet most of his setlists are disappointing. I honestly hope I don't have to hear March of the Poozers or Juular live again. At least I can die knowing I saw this album performed live at Plovdiv...

I love the lowkey alternative sound Devy had on this album. For me this is his best partly because it's a little more down-to-earth than the more dramatic stuff he was doing later. A lot of that is still great music mind you, but this is easier to connect with on a personal level. And also his songwriting was at its most consistently memorable and the production and atmosphere are top notch.

Some old guy at work who I get my weed from told me about this and I listened to it today. What a ride! I'm going to listen to it a few more times before I rate it but as of now it's a 5 easily. What else does this guy do worth listening to?

I wish I had never heard Devin and was about to go on that ride!
Best albums definitely listed in those two posts if you add Accelerated Evolution too.
If you know Devy, then the fact the first SYL album is called ‘Heavy as a really heavy thing’ kind of gives it away 🤣

@Barbie oh damn, you didn't know SYL was Devin? That was basically Devin's batshit crazy alter ego that he decided to leave behind 15 years ago.

I'll bring up the By a Thread's Addicted set. To me, overall the best thing Devin did.

I felt like Ghost was elevated the most in the By a Thread sets, but Addicted was a close second

Mid overhyped drivel, this is easily my least favorite flavor of Devin Townsend. This isnt relaxing, funny, entertaining, comforting, grandiose, batshit. It's just boring.
listen to it more is all i can say, you'll start to notice how good the songwriting is here, much ahead of his later showy works. that boringness is actually subtle genius which unravels the more you let it envelop your very loins. from "mid" to genius you shall evolve with the record, together as one. the subtle intricacies begin to expand and take refuge in your lobe. you cannot escape this path, unless you choose to deny your destiny as a true warrior

This album was an instant classic for me. It didn't require any growing. It's on my top 10 albums ever list, that says it all.
