Look I have bad memories associated with Pantera and their music and their personal lives don't exactly help matters tbh.

Pantera is easily one of the worst bands I’ve ever heard in my entire life

They're like the soundtrack to an abusive household. Really can only stomach the slow songs/ballads at this stage.

To be fair, cemetery gates is an incredible song, but I have also been hard soured on Pantera over the years (I know that song is on Cowboys From Hell, not Vulgar Display of Power). RIP to quite a few members of that band, but they were one of those "holy shit our guitarist is a once in a lifetime talent and the rest of us are kind of riding off of that" bands, with the exception of their drummer, who also ruled.

Jon Schaffer is beyond reprehensible. also it's funny how phil spent 20+ years repping the confederate flag and is only just now getting mad at their fans for holding up a sign with the flag lol like bro YOU caused that

Focus on the music, not the personal lives of the band members

Otherwise we can throw out a lot of records
Most musicians are assholes
Jimmy Page had a "baby groupie", a 14-year-old girl that was practically his girlfriend
Steven Tyler, David Bowie, the list goes on and on
If you cannot separate music and the creators of the music, almost nothing will remain

veninblazer if you like Cemetary Gates, I recommend Hollow, This Love and Floods

Album Rating: 3.5
Hollow is fine, This Love gets absolutely ruined by the needlessly aggro hook (his persona just ruins anything hyper aggro they do for me... it'd probably work in the hands of someone like Alexi Laiho - and it has, Needled 24/7 anyone?), Floods left very little impression on me.
I get how difficult it is to avoid it. But the Jimmy Page thing is partially why I typically don't go out of my way to listen to Zeppelin much. That and the fact that insane Zeppelin worship brought us Greta Van Fleet and it kinda bogged down the OGs to me even.
I can separate it if what they did wasn't super extreme, but these days I don't listen to All That Remains much especially with Labonte's doubling down on bigotry all the time. He hasn't changed since the time he called Andy Biersack the F slur one bit.
Pantera's aura just feels like the type of atmosphere I wouldn't want to be around and be comfortable with. Minus the aura I still wouldn't be too terribly favorable tbf but it'd be more indifference.

Yeah bro didn't even try to get with the times after calling a band gaining popularity homophobic slurs (and I get that a lot of people hated them and I'm not the biggest fan either but jfcccc) he just doubled down and started getting worse

'If you cannot separate music and the creators of the music, almost nothing will remain'
true, but this ignores an important aspect that's almost unavoidable when listening to music like Pantera... it's impossible to separate their personalities / image with their 'sound'. It's bloody marketed as knuckle-headed toxic masculinity bollocks. It's pretty much their whole schtick. Does that mean there aren't musicians out there that have done as bad or worse things? Definitely not. It does however make them unbearable to actually tolerate from a music consumption perspective. I can't just switch that off and enjoy the music.
you gave examples of musicians who've had under-age 'relations' yet when I put their music on, do I hear that? No, I don't. Selfishly, I can tune that sort of thing out. Certain specificities and situations DO make me very uncomfortable and there are artists I'd struggle to listen to because of that, but they are few and very far between.
