yeah shes very famous. has quite literally been nominated for multiple grammys, appears on american late night tv, has a collab with taylor swift. i dont know what counts as popular other than that unless we are talking like michael jackson levels of fame.

for the general public to get tired of hearing about her she would have to be 10x more famous. and even then, the people who get tired of hearing about her would be way fewer than the amount of people who are more inclined to pay attention to her because of how often they hear about her. that’s kinda how being a celebrity works

This album peaked at number 43 on the albums chart and her highest exposure song was the one with Taylor Swift which peaked at 43 as well on the Hot 100

I would not call her "popular" in the general sense, but yes music people know her

just wait until mega celebrity Phoebe Bridgers plays the superbowl. her next album after that will surely be a flop cause of the spiteful backlash to her level of exposure. that’s why The Weeknd’s last album sold like 2 copies

she literally plays major festivals like glastonbury (on one of the main stages) and has millions of hits on her youtube videos, how the fuck is she not popular?

you realise that in the grand scheme of things, 43 on the albums chart is very popular? you know how much music comes out?

if you want to move the goalposts sure, shes not a megastar or superstar or whatever, but i struggle to see how she isnt a popular musician

This is a very promising start I like this, let's grab the vector animations from the crash bandicoot 2 model so she can flip while jumping

When I say she's overexposed I'm referring mostly to indie listeners. I've noticed an uptick of comments like "Phoebe is everywhere" and "Does every indie-leaning album require a Phoebe Bridgers feature nowadays?" on places like r/indieheads and Stereogum.

Diehard fans don't care about their favorite artist being too ubiquitous, but the general indie crowd can definitely get sick of hearing about them. I'm suggesting that it would be smart for her to tone down the public profile a bit, it isn't time for another album cycle.

Her rise is actually insane, Mort pulled out some numbers to which I'll add her Lastfm scrobbles: she has more scrobbles than Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey and Tori Amos, artists who have been in the industry for decades.

Idk if it's right to call the john peel stage one of the main Glastonbury stages to be fair

luci idk if that really proves your point. phoebe is probably more popular among the crowd that uses lastfm and PJ and Fiona rose to fame before lastfm even existed

Bridgers basically debuted in 2017 colton. Last fm had been big a lot earlier than that

Honestly, as short as it seems many modern listeners’ attention spans are, she’s probably smart to stay consistently present. She’s definitely prolific and certainly the most popular artist to rise from her scene in the last half decade or so, I think it’s probably good for her to strike while the iron’s hot and capitalize as much as she can on this phase of her career, both in terms of musical productivity and press saturation; certainly it’ll annoy those who don’t love her as much, but my guess is she’s gaining many more fans than she will lose to “overexposure.” She’s playing the industry game and that’s always gonna piss some folks off.

yeah it’ll piss off a subset of ppl who whine on the internet and represent probably less than 1% of her overall listeners
