This is a grower imo. I liked it immediatly, but loved it more over time. It definetly feels a bit more opethian than PC and Sorceress, but also more modern

Yeah, it seems like they've slowly started blending the old and the new with each passing album of this era. And considering the new single contains growls but still sounds like ICV, it looks like they're continuing in that direction

Yeah I liked it immediately as well, but I certainly didn't love it as much as their older stuff. It grew into one of my faves too.

I absolutely agree. I liked it since the first moment, but there are many other previous stuff that I prefer.

This will be ICV + Watershed. A great combination IMO.

Is the new one destined to be their last? The title ominously points in that direction

I feel a looming inevitability is descending upon us

I also feel that a looming inevitability is descending upon us, but of another great work from Opeth. I'm convinced that is for sure.

I think it is referring to the last time he will ever do growls. Signs seem to point to this being the last hurrah of metal Opeth.

Ok. We'll see it in the future. I like both vocals of him.

I don't think Opeth is stopping any time soon, it's Mikael's primary source of income. And if growls are well received, I think there's good chance he'll do them again.

Tbf, he loves writing stories about death.

This one is one of their most colourful. Very lovely indeed.

I wonder how much of the album is going to contain the growl vocals. Given that the single is the first track and its a concept album I wonder if the growl vocals are going to be spared for the big explosive parts of the record, perhaps utilized as a voice for one of the characters. Or is the vocal style going to be a vehicle that is used throughout the album regardless of who the main focus is in the narrative. Either way I haven't been this excited about an Opeth release since Watershed

I expect half of the songs to have growls, just like Watershed
