But especially these guys since they came up through the hardcore punk scenes in NY and Georgia moreso than the metal scenes. I don't think they've ever thought of themselves as a metal band.

radicalresearch did an interview with one of the guys from thought industry and he just straight up says that they pretty much stopped listening to metal altogether around 1988 or something (mind you this is a band whose first demo came out in 1990 and first lp in 1992) and goes on to namedrop a whole bunch of bands in a whole bunch of other genres like swans and xtc

Interesting...I'd never heard of them but the related bands says, Galactic Cowboys, Anacrusis, Watchtower, Mr. Bungle, and Smashing Pumpkins so...I should probably check them out.

It's just cool to say you don't listen to metal when you play metal.
These guys are massive Neurosis fans.

tbf pretty much all the best metal bands were the best because they also got other influences... if you only listen to metal you end up with 9th degree recycled inbred bilge like Havok and whatnot

Brent has been saying he doesn't listen to metal for years, so I don't doubt it

Yeah I don't disagree. I should amend my original statement to say that I don't doubt seasoned bands like Mastodon don't listen to a ton of it anymore. But I'm sure there are plenty of great bands who consistently consume it just the same.

It's just kinda odd, tbh. It's like Brahms saying he doesn't really dig Beethoven. Like what?...

Probably not a good analogy. Doubt Hinds is comparable to Brahms, but you know.

B.Hinds > Brahms.

Pretty hyped up that David Botrill produced their upcoming album and is in the final stages of mixing. Hopefully they'll kick ass again like they did before The Hunter.

One they these guys will go full prog rock and make an album with KC structure. It will blow my mind.
For this next one they promised to close it with an epic like Jaguar God, which is very good. I wanted an album full of Jaguar Gods tho.
