I see you trying to bully Abba out of this conversation.

This is painfully boring. Finally reached the end of my Opeth journey and it's underwhelming, to say the least. At least Pale Communion is awesome.

Yeah man, it certainly is disappointing.
I'm going to give it another go today, blast it over the speakers, let's see if I still feel the same.
I want to love it so badly, but there's just something wrong here, it's 'empty'.

I liked The Wilde Flowers and Will o the Wisp, the first half of Chrysalis is stupid, the second (folkier) half rules, The Seventh Sojourn, Strange Brew and A Fleeting Glance are alright.
I'll stick with my 3 for now. Some parts rule, some parts suck, many parts are a bit soulless...

This album would earn the review rating I initially gave (4.1):
1. Persephone
2. Last 2/3 of Wilde Flowers
3. Will o the Wisp
4. Last 1/3 of Chrysalis
5. Sorceress 2
6. The Seventh Sojourn
7. Only calm parts of Strange Brew
8. A Fleeting Glance
9. The Ward
10. Spring MCMLXXIV
Glad Audacity exists, cause I was able to make this version and track list a reality for me with some careful editing, and the album is much that way imo

Looks a lot better, agreed.
A Fleeting Glance is kind of cool.

Where exactly does the last 1/3 of Chrysalis start? Like the soft outro?
And I love Strange Brew man why you gotta chop it up

It does seem slightly neurotic.

I’m just trying to imagine how it can still sound good when it’s cut up in a program and you still have the knowledge that parts are missing, just sounds like it would annoy me lol

The last 1/3 of Chrysalis begins with that last chord and fades into the soft outro yea.
Strange Brew is stoppy-starty so I'm able to make it sound natural. It might sound neurotic but it's just a creative outlet and a fun challenge to make the edits sound as seamless as possible. I've done it mainly with Opeth, maudlin of the Well, and Kayo Dot too just to have other versions available. I can also share them with friends and family who like challenging, different music but not necessarily handle extreme metal or loud obnoxious sections.

Instrumentally, this is actually relatively good. It just doesn't have that magic that the majority of their discography possesses.

Really hoping the follow up has even just a tinge of their older sound. Even something like Heritage would be awesome.

Something like Heritage would make me extremely happy, love that album with a passion.

Same bro, I know that's when they changed their sound, but it still had that "Opeth" vibe. It was my first Opeth album, so it'll always be one of my favourites (even tho I honestly didn't like it at first haha)

This ''but it still had that "Opeth" vibe'' and this ''even tho I honestly didn't like it at first haha'' so hard. It took a year or two for me to 'get it'. But then one night when I was going out for a walk and put it on it was a magical experience.

Oh yeah, its funny because I only heard they were a Prog Death Metal band, so when I put on Heritage I was like what????
Then I listened to Blackwater Park and instantly fell in love with the band. Heritage definitely grew on me more later on, now I fucking love it.

Yeeeessss! BWP was my first, during the time GR was released. Everything pre-Pale Communion rules though, the last two don't do much for me sadly.
Let's see what the new one will bring.
