Yipppeeee gill glad you're here!
It's a wonderful album, my fave Opeth on most days still. A great mix of the magic of their first two and the stronger focus of their later records.

I'm not supposed to reach these levels of agitation.

idk man it's just always been a combination of "that's gonna be a dense album to unpack, I better wait for the right moment" and "meh I'm just gonna spin BWP / Still Life / Ghost Reveries / Damnation / Morningrise again".

I fear you may have waited too long.

still only helps cement Opeth as the prog-death GOAT imo. it'll probably occupy me for three weeks until I can obsess over new Paysage, the black-ambient GOAT.
Snowpeth, if you will

Love the more black metal vibed pieces here. They especially hit hard in a live setting

Yeah that opening riff sounds like something Dimmu Borgir would do or something.

April ethereal probably one of my all time favorite tracks any genre

That little jazz breakdown riff thing at 3:35 is one of the most memorable parts of this band’s discog for me

Man, putting this on last night took me right back to my teenage years, a full nostalgia trip. I've never actually heard this in its entirety before, only having When and Karma downloaded via Limewire. All the memories came flooding back when they appeared and made it feel like I've heard this album a thousand times before.
Made me wonder what could have been if I'd continued going down this path, instead of getting into drum & bass in college. My music taste is definitely more rounded as a result of that path I chose, but man did I miss a ton of metal bangers in the 10-12 years I was mostly checked-out.
Anyway, back to the album...
