Kurt Cobain was a Red fan. But I wouldn't trust the comments about it directly "inspiring the distortion and dynamics" on In Utero as the source is a "1993 french magazine".

I've always loved Dumb. Kurt was a master of making the extraordinary seem so simple. There's a Barrett-esque naivety that's loaded with gritty Cobain angst. One of those rare bands that the mainstream and musical 'connoisseurs' can enjoy. I think it boils down to Nirvana being innately visceral in an uncontrived way, and not too cerebral that it stifles their songwriting. Visceral angst is something all humans can relate to, even if some aren't aware of it whilst living in their pedestrian worlds.
