i'm liking the "i have gone so far down the being a hipster elitist rabbit hole even though i'm only 16 years old that i'm now going to pretend mainstream pop is exceptionally good" trend right now
"
lol
is that actually a thing, i wouldnt really know im too far gone into adulthood rn

pop during that period was way too same-y, safe, lacking substance and soul
just mindless and boring, generally
it's getting more dynamic lately it seems
|

I like the "im an uppity bitch cake who can't find some enjoyment in music that doesn't wank to its polyrhythms and riffs because im too insecure about what I listen to" trend youre displaying right now parks.
Also 80s pop was the worst pop outside of what everyone considers the essentials for that decade. almost all of it relied on one gimmick that sounds more dated than pop music in any other decade.

yeah you know except for electronic, post-punk, shoegaze, post-rock, blues, jazz, late 80s to early 00s hip-hop and every other genre that i listen to that isn't metal
and when it comes to simple music that's fun to listen to, i get my fix from punk
|
| |
that wasnt directed at your taste, otherwise i wouldve just cherrypicked some of your 5s and call it a day. i dont know why me liking mainstream pop makes me a elitist try hard, I just like music that jams and a lot of pop music has some pretty amazing sound design despite what the stereotype claims.

80s pop had bangers but was definitely the beginning of the overly safe boring thing yeah
|
| |
It was the new wave/electronic sound, honestly. Way too fake sounding and more of a gimmick for artists who couldn't give a shit than an interesting soundscape to manipulate into anything really good. It reminds me of the house/EDM trend of pop music in 2009-2011. Thankfully things got better when they died.

no, it's more that people on this site have gone so fucking hard in trying to 1-up each other on meaningless shit that it's now a common thing to see everyone defending mediocre pop music and pretending it's amazing
it's a funny full circle we've come to
funny if it weren't so sad how invested they are

i would say it was a reflection of where culture on a wider scale was heading
|
| |
what if they dont find it mediocre? for every pop album this site praises, theres about 10 that no one gives the time of day because surprise, surprise. They are actual mediocre pop albums no one wants to pay any mind to.
the top 40 is always an interesting place for jams and seeing really interesting developments and trends in the marketing media, I have no shame in enjoying a lot of it when its good. Or even liking stuff a lot of people despise (See: Kesha and the Black Eyed Peas).
I think people who get upset over peoples want to praise some pop music are the real uppity bitches as opposed to the people who are going to circlejerk over 1989 or E MO TION.

ye didn't realize the 'my two favorite genres are ultra obscure lo fi bm recorded on phonographs in Norwegian forests, and mainstream pop' trend was a thing until I came here either

man i thought more highly of you, this post displays a ridiculous lack of awareness, and you fucking spend more time on here than i do these days
|
| |
im sorry for disappointing you... person... i guess...
i wasnt that big on E MO TION, but I did like 1989 a lot, honestly the discussion of those albums are so self contained in their threads I dont see an issue with it at all. Youre starting to take things too seriously when you get bothered by it i suppose.

Halfway through this for the first time, really nice so far.

"Youre starting to take things too seriously when you get bothered by it i suppose. "
i'm not bothered by it, i just think it's amusing that we have literally come full circle, people have found that they hated everything they could and there was nothing left under the sun to hate, so they took to pretending to love the one genre that has always been an easy target for hate

this albums OK, I think all the praise people threw at Lorde kinda soured me out.
like that one time south park used two monologues in two separate episodes to praise lorde for being so pure and real.
