It is almost an unofficial concept album, it's good also cause there is a tonne of filler on some of the album's like Octavarium, so you're scraping off a lot of the fat and just getting to the meat,
all the song's on that suite are a 5 imo

“That dude has a vendetta against the band, they suck now sure but it's kinda sad the amount of effort he's put into it.”
I’ve been watching his “new” content...yikes. He went from being someone doing great services to the DT bootleg community by uploading shows on YouTube to being its most vocal hater/James basher. Yeah, the way James called him out over a parody video that was meant to be in good humor was wrong but yeah...now that I’ve seen the full picture, I think he’s putting a bit too much effort indeed. I’m not into DT anymore myself but I still give them credit where due.

James LaBrie is a problem......used to love the guy too
if it wasn't for him, Portnoy would be back in already
personally, i'd love to see DT get Portnoy back along with another vocalist for the final era of their career......it can't get any worse than what it is right now

Still can't believe The Astonishing got fairly positive reviews when it first came out

Sadly yeah...DT’s a band that has not aged well with me over time. There’s only 3-4 albums of there’s I still like (this is one of them) and would revisit if I’m up for it but I liked them a lot more when I was younger and spent a lot of time with their discography. It’s been only 6 years when I was at my most “obsessed” with the band.

Yeah, I was obsessed with these guys back when I was a teenager. Even albums like Systematic Chaos and When Dream and Day Unite were albums I considered excellent back then, even though that seems silly now.
But as for the albums that do hold up, I'd go with Images and Words, Awake, Metropolis Pt. 2, Six Degrees, and Octavarium (I realize that last one may be a bit divided in opinion, but I'm sticking by it)

Coincidentally SoccerRiot, those albums you listed are actually the ones in question I still like and hold up well still, hahaha. Octavarium’s the odd one for some reason I really liked a lot more than some people give it credit for. The title track might be my favorite DT song actually.

Can I just 2 any other DT album of my choice? Definitely not this one but there’s at least 2-3 albums I could probably 2 if I haven’t already.

Cant 2 this. This one has home and strange deja vu

I've been listening to this band for 8 years now. They've made so much music since they started and they have so many great (and bad as well) musical moments. They have written many great songs, but the ending of "The Spirit Carries On" is simply sublime. It is definitely my favorite DT moment and nothing ever released by these guys will ever kick this tune out of my head. Petrucci is fucking annoying at times with his mindless guitar heroics, but in this song, he just nailed it. Incredible solo and the finishing touch is majestic. It is sad to think that these guys will never write music THAT good ever again.

Yeaa.. they had a good run at least
Relistening made me bump this up. So balanced from start to finish

I heard back in the day while they were interviewing for a replacement for Kevin Moore they almost chose Jens Johansson. For the life of me Ill never understand why they chose autistic Rudess instead
