Axl was going through his industrial metal phase which is why Slash and Duff quit and Axl hired some edgier and more experimental dudes to play. Robin Finck actually did a pretty good job bridging the gap though, I thought. If you'd told me the solo on Better was written by Slash I would've probably believed you.
