@anode: yeah and i questioned myself for it constantly. i was wondering if they actually had a point. even dropped it out of my 5's for a period to re-evaluate, but it ended right back up in the same spot. i've found better albums since but it's one of those ones that stuck with me even through its flaws.

what album are you referring to specifically if i may ask? also, i really dont think music or art in general, is something that you should look for validation for. it kind of defeats the purpose of using it as a medium for enjoyment. if you follow your own guidelines of what you like, then you really have nothing to worry about. which is why i always question why people get offended when i say i dont like something that they do. i would love for people to shit on music i like as long as theyre being genuine because i want to learn from different perspectives

escape the fate - self-titled. i totally get that the band isn't everyone's cup of tea but i was consistently confused by how it was significantly lower than their other discog with how much it moved me emotionally. perhaps a mean closer to 2.6 would've been more in the realm of yeah i can get that

yeah i just used to get yelled at so much, kicked from groups, flamed, that it just became instinct to think that's gonna keep happening when i'm the only one who likes something in a community
i don't have to like what everyone else likes, and that's okay. i shouldn't let myself think i'm about to be judged every time i try an album that's getting love, i should just listen and come to my own conclusion. if it disappoints a few people, oh well.

i stopped listening after this war is ours so dont have an opinion on the album, but the only value i gain from aggregate user ratings is factoring in if it's worth it to commit time to listening to the album. there are so many outside factors that affect user ratings that the difference in decimal places is really irrelevant

i mean, could be worse - one of my best friends is an AJR fan and when she saw the RYM scores for their albums she was like "HUH?????" and so confused as to why they hate them so much, I also didn't like The Click much but their most recent had a few things I liked
