Dating an 18 your old in your 30's is fuckin gross. Legally they are adults, but mentally and emotionally you are absolutely not. I can maybe understand a hookup, but having an honest-to-god relationship with someone that young while you are that old is really fucked up and pathetic in nearly all instances.

Nah I gotta disagree. Once you’re the legal age of consent no one ought to say anything. Otherwise what are the perimeters? You have to be the same age? My fiancé is 2 years younger than me, is that suddenly an issue? Some people won’t bat an eye, some people have a real problem with any age gap at all so I say who gives a shit. Plus, this girl is defending Jon saying it wasn’t creepy at all. Compared to what people are saying about the other guys, he seems like the only one, and Mingus, who isn’t a creep.

"Legal adult" is a very charged term. I recognize that mental and emotional maturity vary wildly from like 17-22ish and that 18 happens to be the place where we settled on, but I think 18 is too young to be engaging in an actual relationship with someone that old. If the legal age were 16, would you not have a problem with that? Age differences in relationships mean less once you start hitting your mid-twenties and both parties are undeniably consenting adults. It makes more sense to me for hookups to happen because that's not longterm commitment. A full blown relationship though is absolutely weird and I would not be okay being friends with someone who was dating someone that young (I'm 30)

I’m from the UK where the age of consent is 16, and you can drink from the age of 18. Here once you’re 18 you’re legally an adult, so maybe that’s why I take no issue with it. America is weird, can’t drink until you’re 21 but to legally obtain a firearm you can be 18?

Exactly my point. Legally, you can join the military and do porn at 18 but you can't rent a car or grab a drink. The legal aspect is nebulous at best. I think even with the difference in drinking age, 16 is absurdly young and disgusting to me. There's no hard line that I would be able to define, but I just don't see a reality in which I would want to date anyone younger than maybe 24, and even then that would still be a little weird.

That being said, that's DEFINITELY two adults consenting. I don't think the age of consent should be like 24 or anything, but I think anything younger than that with someone in their late 20's/early 30's is really weird

Where I'm from the age of consent is also 16, but I'm still fairly creeped out by a dude in his 30s dating an 18 year old. I'm getting close to that age right now and I can't imagine wanting to be around, let alone interact romantically with people that age. So again, it's fair to say two consenting adults and that it's nobody else's business from that point on, but like someone else mentioned the power dynamics and mental headspace at that age couldn't be more different.
