yeah oldheads dont appreciate the good stuff offa load but "outlaw torn" and "bleeding me" have always been top 10 metallica.

Agreed. I love the whole thing. It's an incredible hard rock album.

Yeah the load albums have grown on me with time and this one particularly is not a bad or avg album at all. You just gotta accept it's almost a completely different band. The Pantera (groove metal in general) and Alice in chains (grunge IG) influence was everywhere so I can understand how that ubiquitous tinge was repellent to many people but this is actually decent

Honestly this is still very much Metallica to me. It's a progression from some elements of the black album, I find it pretty smooth even if it crosses the metalheads' threshold I suppose. For me the fracture (I mean some kind of division between "old" and "new") in the discography comes with St Anger, and even then it's mostly a quality issue

"Lars and Kirk were very into abstract art, pretending they were gay. I think they knew it bugged me. It was a statement around all that. I love art, but not for the sake of shocking others. I think the cover of Load was just a piss-take around all that. I just went along with the make-up and all of this crazy, stupid shit that they felt they needed to do."
never seen this before, so fucking funny lol. just like us fr. great dedication to the bit.

"It's an incredible hard rock album."
Thing is, I don't mind the fact that it's a hard rock album. The real problem is the absolute boatload of filler that drags this and ReLoad down. There are so many songs that could've been kept on the cutting room floor. But if the band put out a 10-12 track album with both records' highlights, I think we could have gotten something pretty special

“ he real problem is the absolute boatload of filler that drags this and ReLoad down.”
Most of this album is respectable. ReLoad on the other hand, is a pile of dog shit filler.

Yup. I might take two to three from Reload if we're entertaining this worn-out notion, but Reload-Hetfield has this weird fake quality that I can't not notice and the recording is so lifeless I'd really rather not.

Reload should be called “one sick song (Fuel) & a bunch of other terrible shit”

"but Reload-Hetfield has this weird fake quality that I can't not notice"
yeah there's something almost cocky sounding about his vox on a lot of reload that isn't present on load nor garage inc.
always theorized it was him leaning into the sellout reaction to load/their haircuts etc... especially on a song like the memory remains which always seemed to me to be about exactly that

I'd like to drop a load onto Metallica. Ey! I never was a big Metallica junkie or metal fan. So it is refreshing when I started hearing Load more or some really old stuff with my friends/bars. I think at least on my radio growing up years Metallica was highly defined by their s/t. I'd hear older songs ofc on ocassion but other than Fuel or a odd newer song here or there. Until it Sleeps never even got much radio play.
