Nah i still have my fingers crossed in hopes his growls will return to normal if/whenever they start recording an actual metal album

I doubt that will happen but one can only hope...

I'm perfectly fine with it happening or not happening but if it does, sort yourself out Mikael

When people say they miss "death metal Opeth," I hope they mean their musical style which was more

just their brand of progressive metal (outros of April Ethereal, The Drapery Falls, Leper Affinity,

most of Bleak etc.) which sounds more like Agalloch or Katatonia than death metal, as opposed to their

heavy death metal riffs like in a lot of Deliverance, at least that's what I mean when I say I miss

death metal Opeth. Anyway if future albums were "death metal Opeth" without growling, that would be

amazing

pretty much exactly what I am hoping for

Well Porcelain Heart (ughh) and Hex Omega showed us what they can do in that style without the growls. I'll admit, it could be a bit more refined but Hex Omega was a track that sounded like it was the prequel to something much more interesting

Those were more doomy prog songs than classic opeth without vocals, White Cluster (after that first minute) and Face of Melinda are the only full songs. More of that would be perfect

More of both would be sweet

I thought you weren't crazy about Porcelain or Omega

Porcelain is awful but Omega is decent but nothing special. I say this about Watershed a lot and I think it has some great songwriting ideas and if they built on those instead of releasing this, it would have been perfect for me.

An album full of Hex Omegas (but better) and Face of Melinda with the odd Hessian Peel would be the tits

I miss Morningrise era Opeth tbh.

Maybe Mikael can scream and forget the death growls.

If they were to just write songs like Harlequin Forest, I'd be absolutely fine with that. But I know it's not going to happen.

Mikael's growls are shot nowadays but he clearly still enjoys playing old material, just check out their last few setlists.

Maybe it's because he knows if he only played new material he'd be roited off the stage lol

Not exactly, Opeth's fanbase has expanded since the release of this album.

OK, so only the old fans would riot.

I'd be pretty pissed if they only played Heritage. I really like it, but lets be honest their other albums are all better and this just doesn't reach the highs of the heavys
