I like the songwriting...the cohesiveness. They're letting the songs breathe. There are harmonies, melodies, and effects in the songs that fucking work.

This could end up being the metal album of the year for me, i'm enjoying it that much....first day buyer right here

The melodies are superb yeah and it all feels so natural, as opposed to when they try and force it like on here and parts of OMRtS.

The Hunter is miles better than OMRTS (or just 0.5 in ratings for me)

All of their records are rather close in terms of quality for me. It's just that Leviathan and CtS peak a little higher. This is the only Mastodon that doesn't quite cut it to be a 4. But it's not far off.

Leviathan- Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye are all top notch, yeah. Only one I don't dig much is Remis.... *gets hit by a rain of stones*

@Myth

hahaha

Remission is so different compared to everything else they've done. It's pure sludge with hints of prog. Very different record from what the band did next.

For some odd reason i never got into BM as much as i would liked to. It has some incredible tracks-drugs though.

Remission is cool for workout and Elephant Man is one of their best songs, but overall I prefer their middle work to their earlier.

It's understandable since you love their latter work (which is more progressive) and that track is almost a prelude to how things will unfold musically.

What about Crusher Destroyer ?

it's another personal favorite
