Hate to have to ask and, at the risk of being reductive, but is this a breakup album?

“The lyrics may as well be absent. The vocal sampling on here is more about using them as an instrument rather than lyrical narration.”
Just flat out wrong.

"Hate to have to ask and, at the risk of being reductive, but is this a breakup album?"
kind of feels like an album illustrating some sort of environment (internal? external?) where a breakup was a part of it? which to me maybe is a little different from Blue (1971)

Album definitely has an atmosphere of cerebral loneliness, at least to me. It's like sitting in an empty shopping mall you used to frequent as a child. The stores have all closed, the people are long gone, and your only company is the echoes of distant memories. It's both peaceful and tragic.

this doesn't feel like a break-up album so much as an "I've been single and heartbroken for years and have just taught myself how to be lonely" album

I read that he actually used YouTube covers of the bigger songs he samples on this album, partly to avoid copyright issues. Not sure about that sample tho

does that actually circumvent copyright law? surely he still had to pay for it, the covers aren’t monetized but Burial’s is, and the IP is the original artist’s
