looks like Isis were a couple years ahead (they did a few EPs before dropping Celestial) but like, they were both pulling the sled.

it’s not a stretch but both bands have similar backgrounds in appreciations in Neurosis, Melvins, Earth, Godflesh, Swans, sludgy hardcore, drone, and the odd pulls that were their own from Radiohead, Mogwai, Eno.
CoL may have been behind by a year until Salvation, but both were doing their own and weren’t aware of each other. back then magazines were doing the main promotions and Ipecac and that baby record label that released CoL’s debut weren’t big.
