I don’t blame them, would definitely do the same. I’m guessing most musicians still enjoy making new material late into the careers & a lot will truly believe they’re creating genuinely great stuff, the stuff they want to hear.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a percentage (however small) just take the money & run though, continually releasing contrived & half-baked tripe that even they think sucks.

i mean I paid for it (the vinyl sounds fantastic btw) but i really don't think a band like opeth is gonna sell a lot of albums especially on a relatively small label like nuclear blast
and yeah mayhem pretty much summed it up

IF this album indeed was written all in the studio, that makes it even more impressive. I think it's the hardest pre-Heritage album to get into, and some of the repetitiveness does grate a bit, like the riff in Wreath, and especially the intro to Master's Apprentice (love that song to death but that riff puts me to sleep). But just about every riff, transition, solo, clean part totally hits right in the feels. When it's not riding sequences into the ground, this is just as compelling as anything else they did in their prime.

According to wiki this album and Damnation were written at the same time, all in the studio

I actually raised my rating up 0.5 after our discussions in this thread. It's not as boring as I remember, I let bias take over but after listening to it again years later it's not a bad album.

Yea, my final legacy to this piece-of-shit site. This was one of my favourite sites of all time. I had a lot of different friends that shared the same music as I liked, but more and more assholes joined the site and my friends got banned or the simply quit visiting the site Feel free to create multiple user-accounts to flame me and this review. I don't fucking care anymore. I'm done with this site. God-like thanks to South_Of-Heaven_11, Shadows, Cravinov_13, Silent_Echo, BallsToTheWalls, Rattlehead and a few others. I hope that you will have a good life ahead of you, but this is my final farewell... Thank you Sputnik music for giving me the opportunity to discover new music and friends... metal will always stand tall m/ m/
