I listened to Left Behind after having listened to this album and I was blown away by Slipknot's style and intensity. Even if I eventually "get" Mudvayne, I fail to see how Slipknot are at least not on the same level? I feel like I should enjoy this album, and I'm tempted to give it another shot. However, it's hard for me to groove to it because there's a transition, drum fill, or playful bass line every ten seconds.

Lost and Found would be a more accurate comparison considering it has Mudvayne using more basic song structures. L.D. 50 is way too experimental to garner comparisons to most of Slipknot's stuff. Shit, you'd have to go back to M.F.K.R. to dig up experimental Slipknot.

LD50 isn't even the same sport. There's only a couple metal albums from that era that should be honestly compared imo, and it's exclusively the ones that transcend the bounds of their genre.
Again I don't mean it as a knock on Slipknot, I'm legitimately proud of them for being as vicious as they are and getting as big as they did. The fact that they released fucking Iowa after turning so many heads will forever blow my mind. Absolutely savage. But LD50 is neigh-incomparable. there's just nothing else like it.

Yeah I love the knot too but this album is just sheer unprecedented songwriting genius from cover to cover. Haven't found anything else quite like it.

slipknot comparisons are dumb when this is just chocolate starfish and the hot dog flavored water with worse riffs worse atmospherics worse bass tone no turntables and a worse vocalist + some mathy bits
the world would be a better place if we all categorized music by how it sounds, rather than how it's structured, or how the members look
