The thing that gets me is that the whole "art vs artist" argument isn't even presented properly by a lot of the people who take the "art" side.

Nobody will side eye you if you listen to Brand New still (or at least, not nearly to the same extent), but these people aren't just listening to Brand New, they are proudly proclaiming they listen to Brand New and seeing an attack on Brand New as an attack on the self. If someone wants to enjoy the art, then by all means I don't really care, but that's almost never what it is.

This doesn’t read as anything newly discovered to me unless I’m misremembering? Which is to say I’m not sure this article will change anyone’s mind, one way or the other. Seems people have either reconciled the ick and ultimately dont care (or at least say that they think he rehabilitated himself and served enough penance to be forgiven, which, i mean whatever but cmon just admit you don’t want to stop listening to their music lol), or have written him and his music off for good. The article ultimately isn't as revelatory as the original accusations, but it presents far more depth to the calculation of his actions going as far having dinner with the family and staying in constant contact for a while and also crucially shows that he has not attempted to make amends with the survivors (or at least this one).

With regards to this particular person's parents, yes this whole ordeal is an instance of poor judgement by the parents who absolutely should have been more protective of their child, but let's not forget the power imbalance of a rockstar at the height of their career being able to seduce and weasel their way into these people's lives.

Yeah dude is a complete scumbag. I usually separate the music from the person but this is the first time one of the musician's actions really turned me off of their music. Same with the dude from Inquisition. If you're doing stuff to hurt kids that's where it starts to piss me off. I listen to a lot of sketchy bm artists but 99% of them never touched kids.

Okay, i thought the “dinner dates with mom” thing was already known because when I read the article, I swear I had already heard that aspect years ago (solely because of how fucking strange it was). Though admittedly i don’t remember the grimy details and so I could be totally mistaken and just mentally filling in the (wrong) gaps. One thing I DONT remember seeing, though, is that picture which is very very cringe on several levels.

It's all good, there's been no shortage of crazy musician stories (especially within this scene lol) so it's easy to conflate.

This specific person is different that the ones who came out in 2017

Okay this I did not known/realize. I still don’t think it will change anyone’s mind(s), one way or the other, alas. But it’s sadly not surprising to hear a new/different account of similar things. Generally people like this have repeated patterns of poor behavior, rarely ever is it a one-time lapse in judgment or some shit.

I'm sure this band has a huge PR company backing them up, so I am kinda disappointed that whoever is calling the shots for them didn't think Jesse should have at least personally apologized to his victims, just to quell any potential negative momentum from stories like this. Unless of course, he doesn't even remember everyone he's mistreated.

The person behind this new story just gave him a list of demands and I think it would do this whole reunion tour good if he could abide by her mostly-reasonable requests, which include coordinating a face to face apology to them.
