I think anode has subjectively been outside but not objectively

a lot of people just simply feel better when their preferences are affirmed by outside sources. Hence the Fantano effect on RYM.

idk it's definitely not controversial to think this would not be an album appealing to average guys. everyone i know listens to country and rap, some rock and that is getting rarer. definitely not female centric pop music lol

I haven't seen a single person on this site obsess about how affirmed their perspective is or isn't by outside sources half as much as you do
and half the 'Fantano' effect is more a reflection of how much time casual rymers spend doing their own discovery, ie next to none. size of his platform is definitely the more significant factor relative to the sway his opinions hold

tbh i think it's also the case that most people often already have that community so have no need to speak of it, and aren't fighting a losing battle alone on a divisive album, like i seem to be often

So if people disagree with me it's gotta be Fantano swaying their pea brains?
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
nah, people disagree for whatever reason. just often feels like albums he dislikes get ratebombed at a higher rate than if he put like a 7 on it or smth. LIBAD being a7x's 3rd lowest rated actual album on RYM feels inaccurate to its actual quality.

its hard to say because everyone is in different circles and tbf everyone's point of view is gunna be pretty narrow unless you spend time with people from all walks of life which i definitely dont. but from my experience, it's always been rap, jam bands and 80s music are the things everyone can agree on

we all got the one jam band friend. my cousin is a huge phish guy, HUGE. it's like a cult lol
|

almost all the negative reviews of his I've tuned into in the past two years have been (usually justified) contrarian pieces that have hardly made a dent to the positive reception the alb has enjoyed on rym or wider discourse. since when has Fantano gone out of his way to review mallcore

| |
Album Rating: 3.5
didn't he not good LIBAD and that's why its average tanked like fuck? i think we can say the same thing with Amo, the average tanked after he reviewed it, and Ohms was bolded before he negatively reviewed it
there's another one but I'm purposely trying to avoid further discourse about it
|
| |
The Fantano effect isn’t real, but if it was, it’d be like spilling orange juice on a USB stick full of mediocre opinions and calling it discourse.
|
| |
Ohms holding down a 3.49 is an entirely reasonable state to end up at, and even as someone who likes the former and considers the latter a little overhated compared to the rest of BMTH, there are a thousand reasons why a wider audience of non-fans would brick on LIBAD and Amo hearing them for the first time

Baseline can you tone down the dissemination porn plz, my body cannot deal

yeah and i think the same thing happened to me with Hellfire, but I always got the feeling it's not considered "okay" to feel that it gave me sensory overload without people potentially getting angry with me
|
| |
people have been rightly shitflinging at black midi for that reason (and others) since cavalcade idk what to tell you other than stop wasting your time letting the rym datapool victimise you? jfc

“I haven't seen a single person on this site obsess about how affirmed their perspective is or isn't by outside sources half as much as you do”
Tf you talkin about dude

i mean when the data pool considers it the 233rd greatest album to ever come out, but one of your top fav albums just barely hangs above a 2 avg, if taken at face value it makes it look like the site is subtly judging you, telling you your taste is objectively dogshit, and you should "put the fries in the bag bro, you're washed". if taken that way, it closely mirrors 14 year old me trying to find community in metal fb groups but being yelled at for posting metalcore
