New song rules. What a year for Death Metal

Last third of Continuum is gorgeous, maybe my favorite part of the album. All the light electric and acoustic guitars in Universal Truth are so great too. Middle two minutes of that is another highlight. The Mob is a wonderful bonus track.
New song is alright but honestly didn't resonate with me a whole lot. They tend to release my least fav song on each album as the lead single though haha

Some music channel YouTubers/reviewers have gotten access to the new album early.
Here’s one dude’s preview (not review) of the album:

Thanks for the link, Ghost. I finished to see it on Youtube. It confirms the growls but also confirms that the new album isn't a mix of the old and new, but something different. The band continues progging. I'm even more excited to listen to the album. Akerfeldt continue proceeding his very own path.

I can't shake off how similar the single is to Heart in Hand

Didn't think I'd ever get around to listening to this one after the travesty that is Sorceress and Pale Communion, but I finally got around to it. This is unequivocally one of the most boring things I've ever heard

Hard disagree, they sound like they were having fun again with this one, for the first time since Heritage. Love the result.

I really like Heritage, thought it was a very welcome addition to their discog, this, however... damn. Maybe if I ever get to the second playthrough something will change, but so far nothing except for the solos has clicked

While PC and Sorceress didn't ever click (I've been trying every once in a while since they were released), this one did really benefit from repeat listens. Maybe it'll work that way for you too!
Was lukewarm to this at first, but it grew enormously on me, much like Heritage did, although that's a mega 5.0 in my book whereas this one didn't quite reach that level (yet?).

Dunno, maybe I should listen to the Swedish version or something. By the time The Garroter came on I was begging for this to be over as soon as possible. I'd probably listen to a Linkin Park album in full rather than have to get through this bullshit again. Glad you're enjoying it tho, Trif, I just don't see almost anything appealing about this.
Mikael as a frontman is great, but only when he combines his cleans with his growls, as there's definitely not enough range or personality in his cleans. It worked for a couple of albums (Damnation, Heritage), but the rest of these are just duds, maybe not primarily because of his vox, but that's definitely one of the main reasons. The music is mostly bullshit too tho. Damn, sorry for being this negative, I just expected much much more, especially since people are bigging this up a lot compared to their other post-Watershed stuff.

"the Swedish version"
Yes. That's my fave version for sure.
Ahahah, no worries! I'll enjoy it for the both of us then! Queueing it up next in your honour!

Damn... you and I are on completely different wavelengths. This utterly decimates Heritage imo... in fact, Heritage is still my least favorite Opeth by a country mile
On the other hand, I think In Cauda Venenum is the only 70s prog Opeth album that could legitimately stand toe-to-toe with their classic prog-death albums

ICV is perhaps more typically "Opethian" despite him not doing da growl ting (obviously)
I'm a fan of Heritage but can definitely see why people would prefer this (have them neck-and-neck myself)

In general I may agree with Koris. But I like very much of "Pale Communion" too. On my booh it's a great prog work.
