idk menawati, look at something like In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
I mean, I'd only "grudgingly call it a classic" because everyone else around me says it's a classic. Nothing about it to me inherently screams "CLASSIC EVEN IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE SINGER'S VOICE." That just sounds like a copout... like you're only calling it a classic so your credibility is maintained.
Of course if there's other factors that make you think it's a classic (e.g., "I dislike this album but the instrumentals and lyrics are great; if I could stand the singer's voice this would be a classic") but at that rate you're saying that because you like aspects of the album, not because some authority claims it's a classic

yeah almost nothing is rated as high on rym as it is here
they tend to rate modern things significantly lower in general like #10 of this year is like a 3.65 or something

I'm just throwing out examples that Sputnik would agree with. I'm withholding personal judgment since like I said, I don't think any albums are classics or pinnacles. I don't even think music isn't subjective, though we might be tempted to when comparing shitty pop to classic rock lol

i don't deny that there are 'classic' albums, and i recognize their influence, even if i don't like them. all i'm saying is in aeroplane isn't really a classic in that sense

ok example:
I love Pink Foyds final cut its almost 5 for me but it's no where near a classic.
Sgt Pepper is only around 3.5-4 for me but I consider it a classic.

well yeah, of course there are influential albums. if that's what you mean by classic then I agree

tl;dr the point is ratings here differentiate between what's a classic for you and what's a classic for music in general
