Then again there’s no way that black people in America can’t be said to have contributed to the nation’s music in ways that way outpunch their demographic representation in America. Case closed. Shit nearly got dicey there

what I love about sput! evaluation of music itself, not music as a proxy for a prevailing culture (or counterculture) / a conduit for performance that turns classics into commodities, social or monetary cache. not that surrounding culture should be negated or w/e but u all know what I mean

...but ya obviously so much great music emerges from black innovation and tradition. struggle and adversity don't guarantee classics (which aren't predicated on them either) but maybe they help...

Absolutely no acknowledgement of monumental recordings made in the 60s onwards that shaped things to come.
Complete disregard for 80s alt-rock
Oversight of rock n roll, metal, blues, punk, classical and dance music which have all contributed unequivocally to the brew.
Cloying desperation to inflate the relevance of modern music without appreciation for what went before or a willingness to understand that the innovation that preceded ‘modern’ music was more inspired and adventurous and objectively ‘better’
Rhianna, Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Drake, Adele, Beyoncé, 50 Cent!! Absolute nonsense.

Album is near perfect and every second is amazing and inspired music. It’s beautiful. And the focus is on the music itself, and no lyrics to get in the way. I think it’s an album that really can’t be over analyzed, because it just wears itself on its own sleeve. You either are down for the atmosphere and groove this is bringing or you’d prefer something else.

The lyrics may as well be absent. The vocal sampling on here is more about using them as an instrument rather than lyrical narration.
