I mean either one is an infinitely fascinating topic for lyricism/discussion and there's really no point in putting one above the other. I just always found Syd's story extremely compelling and moving for some reason or other

Everyone and their mother has a different person/reason to blame as for why they stopped working as a unit and I doubt there will ever be one whole, satisfying answer. Guess it was just the ringing of the division bell had begun :-)

Hard to explain I guess, but like take the funky af section that comes in after the first Gilmour/Wright section. Every band member is playing heaps tight and they're all on the top of their game, but like six minutes later they're doing the same exact thing with very little variation apart from some Gilmour noodling. On top of that, funky as it is it seems a little out of place sandwiched in between studying the intricacies of the human mind on one side and Gilmour impersonating a seagull on the other. I know Echoes was developed from a lot of different jams and then put into one which might explain why it feels disjointed as a whole to me, whereas Shine On flows like nobody's business

It's fucking tops for sure but again it's integrated way better in Shine On and feels totally natural in its context there

I've always thought there was something really special about the way Echoes is structured and put together. It's what makes it their masterpiece for me.

"The funk section is the best part of Echoes"

the climax that is the light after the storm is probably the best, but yeah that funk section is great. esp that first note gilmour hits once theyve been grooving for a bit. its also fun waiting for that first note that goes sour, and marks the decent into the madness
