Nah DTGL is way tighter front to back and Spencer's voice is stronger. You can tell he blew it out a bit on this one. The atmospheric tracks are better here excepting maybe To Whom it May Concern.
Both are fives for me obv, but this is like A+ while DTGL is S tier

The screams on Define are so good though, especially stuff like the end of Returning Empty Handed

But I do appreciate the lows on this one a lot

disam is peak spencer but i like how he sounds here more than he does on dtgl. his highs are less high but his lows are lower and that matters more to me lol
this and dtgl are both a tiny bit flabby but the songs i like the least on dtgl are literally all right in a row which hurts it a bit. not a bad song on either though (salmarnir excluded, which is another point in this albums favor lmao)

low key love this discussion. I've gone back & forth so many times on if i prefer dtgl or this more.
I feel like dgtl has a few more high points song wise, but with this album it always felt like they worked harder to craft a album that flowed more consistently from beginning to end. The atmosphere is really amped up too, I always felt like this album took me on a journey.
spencer on dtgl is still my fave, but his lows are more ferocious here. low key think this has aarons best work though

oh this is definitely aarons best both as a singer and as a drummer
fully agree that this flows more purposefully which is part of what gives it the edge, but the only songs that i dont really think are highlights are fault line and coming down. dtgl hits an odd stretch between moment and inviting where i like all of
those songs standalone but dont love how they flow into each other since theyre all in the same key

this album had the same key and tuning

tuning ya (except i think too bright?) but fault line, we are the involuntary, created void, too bright to see prevent any three songs in a row from falling into the "moment suspended in time through youre ever so inviting" homogeneity
also helps this has more variety

like to see the 5 bubs..
I actually love fault line, it's funny you mention 'coming down' though, i'm paraphrasing but they basically said when they were in the studio it was a song they just kinda cranked it out last minute to add more material to the album and didn't really have much more to say about it lol.
I think spencer delivers a really strong vocal performance on it though, which makes me really like it.

I actually enjoy "Coming Down", especially the little change up in the middle. If it was a filler track, then it's a damn good one.
Anyone see them live on their tour? They killed it.
