their recent stuff yea
the early is way better than this

I like some of their early stuff but they're a little too formulaic for me to say they're better. I personally get bored of them quick. This album definitely lays on the cheese but it's got dynamics and variety

Battle Against Time alone lifts this to a 4
and then theres Starchild, Winter Madness, Beautiful Death
I mean, ive ran through these songs so many times that it doesnt hit anymore, but Battle Against Time is a classic song

I was deep into metal by the time I heard this, I was younger like 16 but still.
If this sucks because its cheese, well, thats an entire sub-genre. Rhapsody ov Fire is a beautiful example of cheesey power metal

Ah cmon, park... you can't tell me that solo in winter madness isn't at the least somewhat impressive. That solo rips

Well, I'll just say kalmah is every bit as entry level as this is though. Kalmah was one of my gateway bands. To each their own

kinda yea, i just like what they do with the guitar compared to 99% of bands in teh genre that sound like the same shit
crimson massacre is more interesting, cenotaph's 2nd and 3rd albums (the first one is more pure dm and it is quite good but obv no place in a melodeath discussion)
