I've run into a handful of people IRL who were just completely fucking obsessed with this album, like a lot

an old friend who used to jab at me (jokingly, I'm sure) for my melodramatic inclinations musically then got really into Brand New a few years later and i was like "so what was that about my taste again?" lol
she's a lot stronger than me because I remembered before her RYM acc got sussed she had a whole database list about black metal bands and their politics. thank god there was a different list already on the site, i usually check that before getting into a BM band

i mean if you're able to separate Lostprophets from Ian's crimes then I genuinely think you're just built different and can pretty much separate anything
like, i already feel guilty if I get Rooftops randomly stuck in my head, and i feel like a POS for having actually bought Satori a couple years before the allegations came out. there was no way I was gonna not have some level of guilt here knowing the extent of what he was accused of
technically it isn't "as bad" as ian i guess? but it's just like, i already had my own album I viewed the way y'all view TDAG taken away from me because the guy who wrote it was a manipulator and i refuse to go back, so falling in love with this would just make me a hypocrite for not being able to get past it with that

both Jesse and Ian had relations with underage people - Jesse, with a 15 year old, and Ian with a baby, i'm under the impression that people who don't see the connection straight up just don't think being with a 15 year old is as bad

pedophilia is pedophilia, futures. the age of consent is 18, and quite frankly the thought of being with anyone more than about 2-3 years younger than me (i'm 25) disgusts me

yeah raping an infant is the same as talking inappropriately with a 15 year old online. bang on.

they're different crimes, but both class as pedophilia. and please don't even try the "ephebophilia" card, that's just weirdo creeps masking their underage relations as some other word to make it seem less bad, same with whoever thought it was a good idea to call them "MAPs".

I am not entertaining this conversation
For the record, I don't remember Lostprophets being a particularly cool band to like even before everything.

i never even knew about them until i heard rooftops randomly on the radio, but i feel like a horrible person any time it gets stuck in my head because it reminds me immediately about what ian did

substance of lostprophets' music/lyrics is light years removed from ian watkins' atrocities, whereas BN's entire career is built on shifting layers of guilt and self-loathing, so I rly do not see the comparison if we have to reduce it to a braindead aRt nOt teh aRtiSt discussion to begin with

wasn't there a lostprophets song where ian basically alluded to the feelings he was having without going into specifics or am I misremembering
