If they trimmed the fat and made it sound less polished, this would've been good

I don't care much for Atlas Rise so if you replaced it with Spit Out the Bone, it's probably their best since Justice. Also, is it me or do they have a habit of not ENDING THE FUCKING SONG?! They love repeating parts at the end instead of just stopping the damn song.

Grew up with Metallica. This album was always just okay to me. There's no grit in the production. Way to clean. And there's like 6-7 mid paced chugging tracks that all sound identical. Literally.

Keep the best 5-6 tracks here and the best 5-6 tracks off death magnetic make the production where it needs to be. That's a great record.

I revisited this album today and discussed with a buddy of mine. I wanted to throw something out to this group as a thought experiment. I think the biggest issue with this album is its bloat and the album pacing. We think someone should tell Metallica it's still okay to release a 45-minute record! So here's a revised and skimmed down tracklist for your consideration. I imagine the album being based on Atlas Rise! instead of Hardwired, so that would be the title. Tracks:
1. Spit Out the Bone
2. Atlas Rise!
3. Dream No More
4. Halo on Fire
5. Moth into Flame
6. Now that We're Dead
7. Here Comes Revenge
8. Hardwired
This is a 51-minute album, it starts with the most furious/complex track, second track is anthemic, third track is slow and crushing, 4th track is the most like an epic ballad, 5th returns with energy to open "side 2", 6th and 7th tracks are strong, and then the super fast furious closer in Hardwired. To me this is a lot like their 80s album formula. Create it in a playlist and listen through. If this had been the album, would it have been a 3.9? .... a 4???
