It's not about appeal i think. I was 8 year old when I first had that Live After Death vinyl on my hands. The cover struck me, their image shocked me, and when Aces High took off it just blew my little tiny kid's brain.
Having a first contact with Maiden in my 20s in 2020 would definitely have a very different impact. That's why me and that other guy in Discord said "You had to be there".

Everything cool about this band outweighs the vocals which honestly aren’t even that bad. But yeah I first heard these guys when I was still new to metal and I’ve always liked them, so yeah haha.

Bruce Dickinson definitely isn't the best vocalist of this style. He doesn't always hit his notes and sometimes is flat on entire vocal lines but he's got character and people just like his voice. He's far from the first singer to be loved without having the best voice. Ozzy and DLR immediately come to mind

I mean Bruce as a vocalist, nay - a frontman, is unarguably in the top 3 in metal history. Liking or not liking his voice shouldn't be surprising just because he's in the pantheon. Personally I think Dio gets quite a bit too much love, but I wouldn't argue he doesn't belong there too.
Admittedly, it's Geoff Tate > everyone else for me.

I'm interested to see how / who you think would push him out?
|

Dio and Halford would definitely be in my top 2, but I'm not sure who would take the last spot.

Bruce has a powerful voice, and the operatic style wasn't super popular in metal at the time. He has great range, phrasing, vibrato, and he has songwriting credits on some of their best songs, incl. Revelations, 2 Minutes to Midnight, and half of the Seventh Son album. Not only that, but his stage presence and ability to still sing the songs well at live shows to this day certainly put him up there as one of the greatest metal vocalists of all time.

Stage presence, command and being the frontman of one of the titans of metal (#1 imo) goes a long way for me.

He's called the air raid siren for a reason......easily top 3 all time metal vocalist in my opinion......what a silly discussion

Agree heartily with newg's comment. Perfectly resumed.
I'll add that I also wish he was my dad.
