"is it? i have destruction, kreator, sodom, hellhammer, and mayhem albums at 5 but i wouldn't say anyone from any of those bands is among the actual greatest musicians of all time, like bach, berlioz or beethoven heh"

Cant we just talk about how gay this album is for incorporating a multitude of time signatures and discussing philosophy/common sense instead of satan and zombie movies?

What makes a great musician isn't what genre of music he plays, but the way he shapes the music industry and innovates it. When Chuck made albums like Human and Symbolic, he took the genre death metal, a genre that is generally looked at as nothing but screams, growls, and simple songs about the supernatural, and gave it a brain. He wrote songs about philosophy, mentalities, and ideologies while still retaining that heaviness and aggression that made their previous albums great. Other great death metal bands have been trying to build on this since, such as Gorguts and Opeth. Death is a band that is generally looked as one of the greatest of all time because of their innovation and superb songwriting, and yeah Chuck is one of the greatest musicians of all-time, wtf are you talking about. (still love ya waith)

@TheMagicalBlender: it's an intricate question. Anyway no-one here talked about genres. Those composers are considered among the bests because of their works, the fact that they are all classical composer is just a mere coincidence. Chuck is surely among the greatests in the metal, no doubts about this. But take also the binomial "quality of works/ number of works" he is really far away from Bach, Liszt, Mozart etc..

this is all because of

"also making this slightly more puzzling is the fact that he/she has this at 5.0"

Yeah I honestly hate Chuck's pseudo-intellectual lyrics sometimes. They certainly don't make this album any better.

Don't jam this too often anymore, gotta say I've been taking to Leprosy and SBG even harder lately.
