Imo, this is alternative metal of the "artsy" kind, Perfect Circle is alternative rock of the "artsy kind". Both not hard to classify, but they are nonetheless unique within their genres.

Passive is amazing. Don't care for anything else on that album and Counting Bodies is total garbage. But the one and only actual new song on there is on 13th Step level, I'll give it that. Doesn't save it from being a pointless release though.

Mer de Noms is a very good album and 13th Step is a vibrant, colorful masterpiece. It will be almost impossible for the new album to keep up with those - doesn't help that I didn't like the first song they released ...
