I just felt Lullabies was weaker than SFTD...Vulgaris was weaker than Lullabies...expected the pattern to continue so was pleased this was near SFTD quality

Fair enough. Lullabies is a little inconsistent, but damn Vulgaris and Lullabies both have some amazing stuff on them.

I also think Lullabies has the best tone of all their works.

Yeah the tone on this is great, Homme has so much experience at this stage of his career, the album has such a unique feel to any of his other work...and that's pretty special when you think just how much he's released!

'Lullabies' had a great tone too, a bit darker on songs like 'someone's in the wolf'. 'I never came' is a deep cut on that one.

Lullabies would be in my top 3 after this and SFTD. "I Never Came" grew on me a lot the past year.

I've always loved Lullabies, tied for third best with Rated R. Such an amazing, consistent rock band and one of the best in the past 20 years

I'd agree with that. I think about everyone does at this point.

A new album with John Theodore on drums would be tits. Hope this album is the start of a fruitful new era for them

I'm pretty sure it is. You don't write an album like this and then go back to your old ways hell no

I've seen it happen but usually with consistent bands it doesn't.

Hell yeah, he's in a great gig. Although I hear Homme is a bit hard to work with.

Suppose you don't pump out great music like this all the time without being stubborn.

I read an interview where Josh basically said exactly that

That you have to be selfish to make good music or something along those lines

It helps. Depends on the style of music to what extent though I guess

I guess it depends on the person.

Personally, I think great music is made be a collection of people, otherwise it falls prey to being samey.

Obviously people like Homme are the rare exception.
