Album Rating: 4.0
Blood Mountain is my fave too, coming from a longtime fan who has enjoyed most of this band's output over the years.
Just got done with my first full playthrough- I listened to Side A 3 times but still need a bit more time with the rest to know how I feel overall.
It's good, and I prefer the flow of the record more than H&G, which felt like a slog to get through at times- too many downtempo 6+ minute songs on that one.
Emperor felt concise as a record with quite a few highlights (Jaguar God is still so good), and I actually enjoyed OmRtS more than The Hunter- CtS was great and has some of my favourite tracks by the band, but I always felt that one was more of an album for people who "don't really like Mastodon but really dig this".
Leviathan is stuffed with fantastic songs and Remission is where it all began and has Brann's most ridiculous drumming- the whole album is a snare solo.
Right now with 1 listen, I'm ranking BM>Leviathan>Remission>Emperor>THIS>H&G>OmRtS>The Hunter
