I don't get the appeal for TBEITBN, it's MM but more radio-friendly
Agreed. It’s pretty good, but ultimately a mixed bag. Think I have it at a 3.if not, then I should. But it still has Hurricane, The Window and Salt and Shadow, some of their best songs.
I would agree that this is their best since M/M. Palms is their worst album imo. It has none of their best songs, though I do like the bookend tracks.

I'm repeating myself but the ending tracks of M/M really drive it down for me. Still a 3.5
I also have TBEITBW as a 3 but I agree on your choice of strong tracks.
Palms is misunderstood in my opinion, most people say it's a snoozefest, I find it very soulful. Shout out to My Soul. Just Breathe is another standout with its chorus and bridge. Hold Up a Light does kind of suck.
Overall I'm pretty happy with their last 3 records, I find them more consistent and satisfying than TBEITBW

I hope you don't mean Disarmed, because that is a top 5 Thrice track all-time.

And Anthology lol.are you confusing it with another album? Because it finishes pretty goddamn well.
Oh yeah, I like Just Breathe as well (though, not love it). I don’t dislike Palms, they don’t have a BAD album. I think it’s just fairly mediocre.
I’m also a fan of h/w and h/e, though h/e is the clear winner for me.

don't know what I was thinking here, clearly meant TBE and not M/M. Both Anthology and Disarmed are fantastic tracks

Oh that's fair then. I do enjoy Salt and Shadow but yeah Whistleblower does nothing for me.

This one is nice. Very similar to East, but just a tad bit better.

I think this SOUNDS great, great production/mixing/performances/etc. I just don't think they have "it" anymore and it bums me out. Nothing on this prompted me to want to return in any capacity even if I enjoyed it enough on first listen.

That's fair, it does sound great. I've fallen out of this band awhile ago. IMO their last great album was Vheissu, however TBEITBN is generally pretty good. Bands change, and people don't always have to like what they put out.

Crooked Shadows works great as a second track FWIW, totally makes it work for me in a way that its current placement in the album just doesn't.

this may be my favorite Thrice since Alchemy Index which is extremely unexpected.

Crooked shadows to vesper light is a pretty great run, distant suns is probably the best song this band has written since like the alchemy indexes for me

I wish these guys would lean into the post-metal more and ditch the hammy choruses, when this is just baritone guitars and thicc riffs or atmospheric clean guitar it’s so good

YES man I love Post-Metal Thrice. That's why a song like Night Diving is a top-5 Thrice song for me, and breakdowns like Still Life are so good.
