First listen was mad rough. Most of the songs I soured on at first have already grown, but Locked Club has to be a bottom 10 tones track.

First impression was that I was a little underwhelmed by this but Deftones albums sometimes take ages for me to truly appreciate, SNW being the prime example. Ohms was a revelation for me when it came out but it didn't have the staying power I thought it would, even if I still really enjoy it.
I don't wanna give this a rating until I listen to it a few times. Wish they had a few more actual heavy songs on here but Chino's screams have sounded rough for the last couple albums so maybe it's for the best.

I've got some pretty hefty yawning happening with this, what a surprise

Man so many people loving Infinite Source and it might be my least favorite Deftones song ever lol. That riff is absolute garbage.

It reminds me of a worse Xenon.

Milk of the Madonna is probably the best song here though. That vocal melody is golden.

"it's funny to look back at the ohms release, so many people glazed it simply because it was better than gore"
Yep. At the time I commented on one of the reviews that ppl on here had Gore Derangement Syndrome and...this was not taken well lol
I'd still say Ohms is better than Gore but it's a small gap for sure

Still working on my second listen, and it's hard to give it a rating just yet. There's a lot of KNY and Diamond sprinkled throughout but it's more experimental than they've been since SNW. Right now ecdysis is the highlight for me, and Chino sounds WAY better than he did on Ohms.

On 3rd listen and this is way more consistent than Ohms but it doesn't have the big bangers that Ohms did (aside from Infinite Source and I Think About You). It also doesn't shit the bed at any point tho. Its all just very decent and maybe that's all I can ask for from this band these days.

Alright album, right below ohms for me in quality and around in the middle of their discography in general, but still solid enough.

@jeet
There’s nothing here as good as the instrumental build in Genesis but I think the whole thing is way more consistent. Steph’s riffs are just a lot better too. There’s a lot less dumb guy chugging

Yeah not a 5. I think I’ll keep my 4.5 tho… most of the choruses are better than anything on their past two, certainly Ohms at least. There weren’t a lot of catchy hooks on that album imo

I can see this being a 3-3.5 for a non-deftones fanboy. Right now I just need a few listens but It's more great music from a band I've listened to since I was a wee 9 year old in the year 2000. Better than Gore.
