I like this and it's easily the most overhyped album this year so far

I had this familiar feeling during my first listen of this that reminded me of my initial impressions of NWFT. When I first heard that album, nothing in particular blew me away like individual moments had on previous Coheed albums (like the one right before it, for example lol), but it still seemed like a great collection of songs. Idt anything from NWFT would crack my "best of" Coheed playlist, but that album proved to have greater longevity than initially anticipated, and it'd be ranked in my top 5 C&C albums. The more I listen to this though, the more I think it has diminishing returns. Still within that zone where I think it's mostly a collection of solid tracks, but there's a couple noteable weak spots here.

First track sounds like a Bad Books song. Wasn't expecting that...

And that one-two punch of Blind Side Sonny a Play the Poet is awesome.

Def doesn't approach their early work and agree about the overhype, I think I benefited from coming into it super early with bad expectatoins and I'd prob feel different if I saw all the hype first then listened.

It doesn't approach their best work as some are saying but it's a solid catchy album with a few choice great moments and really no full misses aside from BSS which works decently enough in context. I'm still happy for them to be making something this quality this far into their career for sure. And Claudio sounds great

The Flood is unreal. The bridge is a little understated, but I think it works well. Riffs galore with a really catchy chorus.

Its growing on me more and more but its still their 6th best album to me, with Second Stage through Black Rainbow all being much better and all 6/5 not 5/5.

Alright what album has the least annoying vocals or is it one of those “shut the fuck up and get used to it.” kinda deals

I feel like things got much more polished with the Vaxis albums, so maybe Vaxis I, but they still sound like they did back on IKS to some degree.

@Wildcard

mostly a "shut the fuck up and get used to it" kinda deal, but I think that Good Apollo Vol. I is probably the best place to start if that's a worry. The band's first three albums can be rearranged in any order as their best, but Good Apollo has less rough edges than the first two.

I'll agree with Bowler though, if the vocals are SUCH a sticking point that you're willing to check out an album that is a little further from their peak but have more palatable vocals, Vaxis I is a good bet.

Much as I really do feel this is their best since Good Apollo Vol. I, I think it's a bit inscrutable if you're not a fan already

lol as much as I love GA:1 I think it has the weirdest vocals. way more harmonies that sound WEIRD and his enunciations are all over the place. I've heard those songs hundreds of times and there are still passages where I have no idea what he's saying.

Oh, absolutely. Despite spinning that album dozens and dozens of times, I have no idea what a good portion of the lyrics are from his odd enunciations and phrasings, but it still SOUNDS smoother than the whiny extremes of SSTB and IKSSE3 (which are perfect to me but I get why anyone wouldn't "get" them lol)

I think Claudio's vocals are much more accessible on the first two albums if you're cool with the occasional chipmunkness of songs like A Favor House Atlantic or Time Consumer.

It's not as strong as Good Apollo or IKS but its sound and energy harken back to those albums which is why I enjoyed it so much on the first run through. It's a strong album but comparing it to 2 classics is unfair. I've just enjoyed listening to it because it sounds like the creative juices are flowing and it has a little bit of a nostalgic feeling for those of us who were big on C&C back 20 years ago.

I can see it being someone's least favorite, but hard to see how it's by a decent when Color Before the Sun exists. That album's best song (Atlas) doesn't reach nearly the same highs as the title track for Window of The Waking Mind
