The album is currently sitting in the 3.5-ish realm for me, maybe a bit less.

As long as you don't go beneath the 4.0 I can see that too.

Another day of this has come!

"one of their best"

That would also be asking a lot, with how ultra good 'their best' is!

Loving this one.

I feel like Opeth and Alcest put out albums on similar levels this year. Really good and sweet, they're just no career highlights

yeah, but still dig this one over Les Chants, think this one is more of a step forward for Opeth than Les Chants is Alcest

In terms of leaps forward that's absolutely true. I like them both pretty much equal though

The early going definitely has its moments, the album probably peaks with S3

I like elements of S6 but idk if it really works overall. That one and 7 are sort of a mess (and not the 'good kind'). The closer is dead on entry for that reason. It would never have been a highlight but by that point you've already lost interest and are planning an exit strategy

Some listens later and this still stays at 3/5 for me. This still feels disjointed for my taste, and the growls seem to not mix this well with the music. I also don't get the hype for S5, as the first half is definitely the strongest part of the record, along with the closer.

One or two more album in this direction with more finetuning and better song structure, and then maybe they can hit greatness again (if they still have some gas left in the tank by then).

My highlights are 4, 6 and 7 so far, so very much disagree there Demon!

Can't get this out of my head.

3 is actually my least favorite one on here, and now that everybody's mentioning it, I do kinda feel like they could've cut the last track, though I love it. maybe kind of make it a bonus track like how Face in the Snow or Pyre were for Heritage. gorgeous tracks, but would perhaps not fit in the main body of the album stylistically

ยง6 is one of the best songs they've written in a very long time.

That part after the solos goes so hard:

Yeah as far as the last track goes, it kills the end of an otherwise amazing album. I think it was intentional to sound drastically different than the rest of the record, and story wise it's almost meant as an epilogue, but it's the only song on the record where I want to press skip
