I don’t know why we’re still entertaining music from bands that peaked in the early 00s like Coldplay

I’m agreeing with people saying this is more consistent but GC had bigger highlights. Grimace blows this album’s closer out of the water.
Also that’s totally Raygun doing growls

Liking this more than any of their other stuff, vocals aren’t the weird off kilter talky bullshit
|
| |
The off kilter talky vox were what made it all work for me : (

Clearly their best record. The blast beats in No Way Out were a tasty treat. Bit one note at times though, or at least the heavy parts have a lot of the same characteristics over the album. Very down tuned chug dependent, and I think there are a lot of ways to be heavy that aren’t that.

There absolutely are lol, the only songs missing this are the ones that are mostly clean singing

Frownland chorus is so fucking sick

Yes Frownland is my favorite so far. Cool album. First time hearing these guys.

How good are the sludgy grunge shoegaze tracks? I will not complain if that's the direction they decide to keep heading in.
I just wish there were some more blastbeats and growls to counterpoint the mellow sections. The closer ending with an intense blastbeat climax would have been killer.
But it's phenomenal stuff, Griff would have to be sputniks biggest export now these guys are possibly the most acclaimed noise rock / sludge group in the world now

'I think if they ditched the last Nirvana influences and went balls deep into caveman noise rock/gaze, they'd have a 5 on their hands.'
The amelodic tracks get stale after the initial smack to the face, so I'm glad they've got grunge and alt metal influences running throughout, it adds to the diversity. Maybe it's just me but for as much a I like dissonant even minimalist music, unless it's executed flawlessly it has limited replay value and I need to be in a very specific mood to enjoy it. Plus there's plenty of groups out there on the noise rock post punk train. Unless I completely misinterpreted your comment in which case disregard
